A Travel Guide to Corsica

The opportunity to bask under the Mediterranean sunshine on an island off the coast of southern France makes Corsica a perfect holiday destination. With magnificent scenery, splendid beaches, lovely villages and beautiful towns with great surroundings and perfect climate, Corsica is an amazing destination to enjoy a long holiday.

There are many activities to be enjoyed here, including swimming, windsurfing, snorkeling, sunbathing and scuba-diving, which are just a few of the more common activities undertaken here. There are other highlights as well that should not be missed, all of which will add lots of fun to your holiday.

Palombaggia beach is towards the South of the island close to Porto Vecchio is a beautiful deep blue sea with a perfect white sandy beach backed by bright red rocks, pine trees and sand dunes. The beach is ideal for kids and is well-known all over the world.

A short drive from the Palombaggia beach will bring you to a stunning horseshoe shaped saint-Giulia beach. Visitors who enjoy sunbathing and water sports will thoroughly enjoy this beach

Musée des Beaux-Arts Museum is one of the must see attractions of the island. It was closed for extensive renovation works and was reopened in 2010. The Museum was established by the uncle of Napoleon and has a very extensive collection of Italian paintings. Most of the paintings you will find here where done by anonymous or minor artists in between the 14th to 19th century. Some of the canvases were made by Bellini, Botticelli, Veronese, Fra Bartolomeo and Titian. One of the masterpieces by Botticelli, “La Vierge à l'Enfant Soutenu par un Ange” or “The mother and Child supported by an Angel” is a must see in this Museum. Temporary exhibitions are also held in the Museum. The Imperial Chapel which was built in 1860 is the final resting place for many members of the Imperial family that rest in a crypt. However, the remains of the famous French emperor Napoleon will not be found here, since he was buried in Paris.

There is a wide variety of self catering holiday accommodation in Corsica ranging from apartments and villas on the coast to gites and cottages in the countryside.
